Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about summer camp. We will be going back to Rainey Mountain outside of Clayton, GA this summer. We will be leaving on Sunday, July 3, 2016 and returning Saturday, July 9, 2016.
Why summer camp? This is a great chance to not only enjoy the great outdoors, but to earn rank advancement and merit badges. For scouts going to their first time at summer camp, you are encouraged to take “TNT”. This program works on many of the rank requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class. All scouts can take merit badges as well. Rainey Mountain is offering 70 merit badges again this summer, ranging from Aviation to First Aid to Swimming and Woodcarving. Several new merit badges are being offered this year – Mining in Society, Pulp and Paper and Oceanography.
If you are an older scout who can’t find a merit badge you may qualify to take COPE, BSA Lifeguard, or an away from camp adventure may interest you.
We have again asked for our favorite campsite, Bridges. It's a great location, on the hill overlooking the camp. This is a large campsite which requires a large contingent
Cost for summer camp at Rainey Mountain is $265.00 per scout again this year. The first payment of $90.00 is due by March 7, 2016. The second payment of $90.00 is due by April 11, 2016 and the final payment of $85.00 is due by May 2, 2016. Please note the add-on fees for some of the merit badges. These include any of the shooting merit badges (rifle, shotgun and archery) as well as others. The extra costs for the handicraft merit badges are for kits which are available for purchase at the trading post.
